Ceramic Fiber Felt Production Line

Lightweight flexible felt manufacturing — low-density material for wrapping, gasketing and barrier applications

Ceramic fiber felt is the lightweight, highly flexible end of the needled product family. It is made on essentially the same route as blanket — fiberising, forming, needling — but at lower basis weight with a lighter needling pattern, which leaves the sheet soft and drapeable instead of dense and self-supporting.

That softness is the product. Felt is used where the material has to conform to a curved or irregular surface: wrapping pipe runs, lining irregular cavities, forming gasket stock, or acting as a thermal barrier behind a hot-face material. It will not hold shape or carry load, and specifying it where board is required is the most common application error we see in incoming inquiries.

Because the process is close to blanket, we often supply felt capability as part of a blanket line rather than as a separate installation — a wider density operating window on the forming section and an additional needle pattern let one line serve both markets. Whether that is the right answer depends on your volume split between the two products.

Process Flow

How a ceramic fiber felt production line runs from raw material to finished product

Ceramic Fiber Felt Production Line: Bulk Fiber Feed → Fiber Opening → Pendulum Forming (low basis weight) → Light Needle Punching → Optional Binder Impregnation → Drying → Slitting → Rolling → Packaging

Applications

Where the output of this line is used

Pipe & Duct Wrapping

Conformable insulation wrap for high-temperature piping, exhaust ducts and irregular geometries.

Gasket & Seal Stock

Die-cut gasket material for furnace doors, access hatches and expansion joints.

Thermal Barriers

Flexible barrier layers in appliance, kiln and heat-shield assemblies.

Why This Line From Jinyuan

Engineering decisions that show up in your daily operating cost

Felt or blanket on one forming line

Where volumes justify it, we widen the density window and add a second needle pattern so a single installation serves both markets instead of standing idle.

Needle pattern specified to the product

Felt needs a different needle gauge, barb geometry and penetration depth than dense blanket. Running felt on blanket settings produces a stiff, overworked sheet.

Slitting configured to your order book

Slit width sets are specified from your actual product list, so converting between formats does not require retooling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions before ordering a ceramic fiber felt production line

How is felt different from blanket?
Both are needled, but felt is made at lower basis weight with a lighter needling pattern, giving a soft, drapeable sheet. Blanket is denser and more self-supporting. Felt conforms to irregular shapes; blanket holds its form. They are not interchangeable, and choosing the wrong one is the most common specification error we see.
Can an existing blanket line produce felt?
Often yes, if the forming section can run at low enough basis weight and the needle loom can be set to a felt pattern. The usual constraints are minimum forming weight on the conveyor and needle board configuration. Send us your existing line specification and we will tell you what it would take.
Is binder-impregnated felt available?
Yes. An impregnation and drying section can be added for applications requiring higher handling strength or reduced dusting. It adds capital cost and energy use, so we only recommend it where the application genuinely needs it.
What thickness range is realistic?
Roughly 3mm to 25mm in standard configurations. Very thin felt below about 3mm is difficult to produce by needling and is usually better served by ceramic fiber paper.
